Horsey Friday Fun Facts – Horses As Weather

Predictors

Horsey Friday Fun weather predictors

Many people believe that horses can sense weather phenomena.

Horses tend to exhibit strange behavior just before storms, earthquakes, etc. occur.  How do the horses sense them?  It seems that horses can feel electromagnetic signals and hear ultrasonic waves of the approaching weather phenomena.

I believe this to be true, because I have witnessed this myself on several occasions.

It was reported that before the major volcanic eruption of Mount St. Helens in Washington State, a herd of horses had safely migrated away from that area prior to the eruption.

Whenever the barometric pressure drops, I have noticed that the horses act restless and are unsettled.  Shortly after observing this odd behavior, a major storm rolls in.

One time in particular, the horses were behaving extremely out of the norm.  A major summer thunderstorm with a tornado was approaching.  As the tornado ripped through the property, the horses crashed through the fence out of harms way.  Fortunately, no one was hurt, except for a few cuts and bruises.

So, this Horsey Friday, through my experience, I must say yes, horses are reliable weather predictors.
