History buffs take note! The Gettysburg Equestrian Historical Society provides you the opportunity to combine your two passions – horses and history. The unique Gettysburg Historical Society Trail ride, held later this month on September 20, 2014, will lead riders through the Pennsylvania battlefield for a 4-hour tour.
The ride leader will narrate the events of the 2nd and 3rd days of the Battle of Gettysburg while you enjoy a stroll through the beautiful Pennsylvania countryside with your horse. It’s a great way to enjoy a trail ride while learning about one of the largest battles ever fought on US soil.
The Battle of Gettysburg was fought in July of 1863, and was the bloodiest battle of the Civil War. The battle lasted 3 days, ending with a victory for the Union and turning the tide of the war. The Gettysburg Battlefield is now a national park, and serves to honor and memorialize the soldiers who died in combat there. This trail ride is a unique opportunity to experience Civil War history from horseback – just as the soldiers did.
Those who are interested in both equestrianism and United States history will love this ride. For more information visit the Gettysburg Equestrian Historical Society website: http://thegehs.org
