Do you have your 9-1-1 sign?
What is a 9-1-1 sign?
A 9-1-1 sign is a big green vertical sign with your house number on it in white that is easy to read from the road. The sign is to be displayed near the road at the front of your rural property at the edge of your driveway.
What is it for?
This sign was designed to make it easier for emergency personnel to find your rural property and to have the response time decreased so that they do not spend a lot of time searching for your rural property in an emergency situation. As you may all know, every minute counts in an emergency.
Is it required?
To my knowledge, most townships in Pennsylvania are now requiring it. Even if it is not a requirement, it is a great idea. Some of the back road rural properties have no road frontage and are difficult to find. Not all rural properties have mailboxes located in front of them. Some mailboxes don’t even have numbers on them.
Check with your local township office to find out about the 9-1-1 signs. It may save your life.
