Manure is an inevitable part of owning a PA horse farm, and what to do with all the stuff is a problem farm owners and managers face daily. What’s the best way to dispose of horse manure, and what are the most environmentally-friendly manure management practices to adopt? And just what is a manure management plan, and how does a person create one?

If these are questions you wonder about, then you’ll want to sign up for one of the Manure Management Workshops being offered by the Chester County Conservation District. These workshops will give participants the opportunity to familiarize themselves with Chapter 91: Pennsylvania’s Manure Management Regulations, as well as learn how to identify manure management problems and get assistance in developing a manure management plan.

The seminars will run from 9:00am until 3:00pm. Light refreshments will be available in the morning, and lunch will be provided for those who wish to stay and work on developing a manure management plan. Workshops will be held on the following dates and locations:

February 17 – Oxford, PA

February 24 – Honey Brook, PA

March 9 – Chester Springs, PA

March 23 – Parkesburg, PA

If you are interested in finding out more about the Manure Management Workshops, or if you would like to register, please call: (610)925-4920 ext. 100, or email Benjamin Drover at: bdrover@chesco.org. If you plan on creating a manure management plan, you will need a map of your facility. Mr. Drover will be happy to assist anyone who is unsure of how to create a map!
