Penn Veterinary’s New Bolton Center in Chester County, PA is known as one of the best equine hospitals in Pennsylvania. The veterinarians at New Bolton are continuously making strides in the fields of horse health, equine surgery, reproduction, nutrition, behavior, and more.
Now, for the first time, horse lovers will be able to take a look behind the scenes of New Bolton’s neonatal intensive care unit and watch My Special Girl, one of the resident mares at the hospital, give birth to a foal.
My Special Girl was impregnated using an advanced reproductive technique in which an egg is taken from a donor mare, injected with sperm from a stallion, and then implanted in the surrogate mare. When the foal is born, it will be New Bolton’s first successful foaling using this technique.
Viewers can check in on My Special Girl by logging on to the Foal Cam webpage. While she’s not due to give birth for a few weeks, for now you can watch the vets at New Bolton perform examinations and routine care. To catch a glimpse of the birth, be sure to log in at night, when many mares often foal. Even if you aren’t anywhere near Eastern Pennsylvania, you’ll be able to be a part of this miraculous event!
