OWORLD RENOWNED BUDWEISER CLYDESDALES TO
LEND A HELPING HOOF
Bethlehem, Pennsylvania – Horses helping horses. The Bethlehem Mounted Patrol Unit, along with the City of Bethlehem Police Department, is pleased to announce a new fundraising initiative to take place in conjunction with the scheduled appearances of the Budweiser Clydesdales in the Lehigh Valley during September 2013. Allentown Beverage is responsible for bringing the Budweiser Clydesdales to the Valley. Paper horseshoes will be sold at various locations throughout the Lehigh Valley at a cost of one dollar; all proceeds of the sales of paper horseshoes will be donated to the Bethlehem Police Mounted Unit. Patrons who purchase horseshoes will be entered into a drawing to be selected for a home delivery by the Clydesdales. “We look forward to welcoming the Budweiser Clydesdales during their stay in Bethlehem this September. It will be nice having more horsepower in the Lehigh Valley. Especially when the Clydesdales are here to help boost fundraising for our unit”, said Officer Jon Buskirk, a member of the Mounted Patrol Unit.
Reformed in 2009 after a 63 year hiatus, the Bethlehem Mounted Patrol Unit consists of three horses, three full time mounted officers, and one field rider. They provide high visibility horse mounted patrol, search and rescue functionality, parade participation, and event attendance to Bethlehem and the surrounding area when requested. The proceeds of the sales of the horseshoes will be accepted by the newly recognized non-profit corporation, Friends of the Bethlehem Mounted Police, which was established to assist in fundraising to cover operational costs of the unit along with the Unit’s already established Adopt-A-Horse and Giving Club programs. “We are always looking for ways to help defray the costs of the horses from the taxpayers. We would like to thank Allentown Beverage and the Budweiser Clydesdales for helping further that goal”, said Officer Michael Leaser.
