It looks like we have finally come into the spring weather. Precipitation is now rain instead of the frozen kind, temperatures are rising, snow and ice are melting, and the ground has now turned into squishy mud.
After a rough winter, and with the warmer weather coming, all of our attention is now turning towards outdoor activities. For equestrians, that means riding our equine buddies.
This morning, on the local news, a story was shown about someone who decided to go trail riding with his horse. After the major rains and the snow melt, the trails are very muddy and slippery in spots.
Anyway, along the trail, the horse slid, went under a fence and into a flooded area where the horse got stuck. The rider was able to pull away before the horse fell into the flood waters. The horse was rescued and both horse and rider are doing fine.
So, before going out for a ride, check the trails first to make sure the footing is good. Mud can be just as dangerous as ice.
HAPPY SPRING AND RIDING! Do remember to be careful.
